As time passes, systems become obsolete. In itself, that's not necessarily a problem. Until the moment that the system gives problems and support is no longer available. Rodi Rotatiedruk in Diemen did not want to wait for this moment. Therefore, the company replaces the current impositioning system with the pre-press workflow automation of EAE/Wobe.
Rodi Rotatiedruk prints its own newspapers, local newspapers of other publishers, but also one of the most prestigious titles in the Netherlands, Het Financieele Dagblad. For their product planning they work with an in-house developed impositioning system on their KBA Cortina press and Kodak CTP installations. Dick Ranzijn, Technical Director Rodi Rotatiedruk: "The current system is written in an old programming language, which is no longer supported. In addition, the person who wrote the software has now retired. So you have no fallback position in case there are problems, or even worse, when the system breaks down completely. You can't and don't want to run that risk.”
Rodi Rotatiedruk and QIPC-EAE are not strangers to each other. For over 10 years, there has been a good and open relationship, both at a business and a personal level. So when this situation came up during a recent WAN-IFRA event in Frankfurt, a discussion ensued which quickly made it clear that Rodi
Rotatiedruk's needs were more extensive than initially thought. "Together, we looked at the problem and extensively examined which (im)possibilities EAE/Wobe could offer as a solution," says Dick Ranzijn.
With the investment in EAE Print 7 for production planning and Print Image (Wobe) for the prepress workflow automation, there will be more stability in the production environment. It also decreases the chance of human errors and increases the efficiency of the work process through automation.
Oliver Dissars, Managing Director Wobe-Team GmbH: “The combination of fully automated prepress workflow and the Print Image Portal enables Rodi to work even more closely and securely with its customers. Data delivery is simplified and made more secure through automatic quality control. The close integration of the portal and workflow reduces the coordination effort between the print shop and the customer even further. The customer can use the Portal Softproof to check the quality of his data until shortly before plate imaging and intervene if necessary. Print image Workflow and Portal optimise the entire process of data delivery, checking, preparation and plate production for Rodi and its customers.”
Dick Ranzijn: "Financially, it should therefore yield savings through a lower error margin and more efficient work processes. We also chose QIPC-EAE because it is a Dutch company; stable in the market in which it operates and daring to invest and grow, even in more difficult times. They have more than proven themselves with their presence on many presses in Europe and beyond."
Erwin van Rossem, Director of Global Sales & Marketing QIPC-EAE: "We are delighted with this deal. That an innovative company like Rodi Rotatiedruk selects us as automation partner, gives us again a good reference in the market".
